Just like any product, professionals also need to market themselves if they want to stand-out in their professional and social lives. They need to focus on building their personal brand in a way that will help them get what they want.
Here are some tips I hope will be beneficial to you:
Start writing
One of the best ways to market yourself and build credibility is to share your ideas. Write articles, blogs and posts on a professional online social media platform or, why not, in a newspaper and tell people who you are, what you want and how you think.
Be active on social media
LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and other online social media platforms provide you with multiple chances to connect with other people and groups, and will expand your exposure exponentially.
Leverage email
Use emails as a preferred communication medium and include in your electronic signature a link to a recent article or blog you wrote. Use emails to reinforce your professionalism and influence.
Speak in public
Choose topics where you know you can add value. Discuss your ideas with friends, colleagues and managers and Invite them to a presentation where you let them know what you can do and how you can help. However, make sure your ideas are relevant to your audience.
Keep yourself informed
Stay up-to-date with developments in your industry. Information comes from a multitude of sources so keep your ears and eyes open and absorb anything of interest. You must always be ready to answer any enquiry associated to your line of work. And if you come across information that could be important to your colleagues, pass it on; they will appreciate it.
Volunteer
If anyone wants your help or asks you to join in a new activity or team, be ready to volunteer. Projecting yourself as someone who can be relied on encourages people to acknowledge your support and promote your brand.
Master a skill
Become the subject matter expert in a relevant field, master a skill and be a role model in a competency. This will make you priceless. The skill you choose doesn’t need to be technical. Many people believe that while soft skills may be intangible they are crucial to career success.
Create balance between your work and your life
Join social or industry associations, meet new people, connect and build your reputation. Spare sometime for yourself and bring an old hobby back to life or embrace a new one. Doing interesting activities outside the workplace gives you more to talk about at work. Promote yourself as a balanced individual who knows how to benefit from all aspects of life.
If you want a career, you must grow and develop. If you want to advance in your career, leverage these easy ways to shine and create more prospects.
Good luck.
