Management Skills and Techniques for Engineers

For many engineers career growth and progression comes in the form of transitioning from a technical role to a managerial one. Statistics show that many of those who make such a transition return to performing technical work, while others decide to stay, even though their performance falls short of the original expectations when they were first. There are many contributing factors why an engineer may not succeed as a manager, and ranking at top are the poor preparations engineers undergo prior to becoming managers, and the evident gap in management and soft skills vital to assuming a managerial position. Becoming a manager entails a different set of skills such as managing employees, growing the business, building relations, solving business problems, managing conflicts, dealing with stakeholders, coaching others, etc. Unfortunately being a successful engineer does not mean the individual is readily born to manage. In this webinar we discuss how engineers can transition successfully from a technical role to a managerial or supervisory role while understanding the differences in mindsets between technical and functional thinking.
